The renovation of Gwangbok Street in Busan, Korea, is an attempt to reclaim, invigorate, and augment the district's endangered urban identity. We collaborated on this project with Lian Chang. Our strategy and intentions were:
-To localize and strengthen the urban identity of Gwangbok Street
-To facilitate the transformation of Gwangbok street from a commercial infrastructure to a cultural destination
-To encourage social density and thoughtful programmatic usage by a broad spectrum of people across a variety of activities
-To stimulate economic growth and investment by local business interests
Our strategy is to implement small, active, human-scale engagements in the area which channel and augment the natural flows and usages of Gwangbok Street. We feel a mix of art, entertainment, information technology and interactivity can be utilized in order to aid and sustain economic vitality and future growth as it transforms from a twenthieth century port to a twentyfirst century center of culture and tourism.
